‘The Art of Tony DeZuniga’ closes at the Haggin Museum in Stockton on 16 August 2026, having opened on 18 June. It runs alongside ‘The Korshak Collection: Illustrations of Imaginative Literature’, which ends the same day.
The exhibition gathers original works spanning decades of DeZuniga’s career, moving from comic book art and commercial illustration to what the museum calls a rare and intimate look at his award-winning fine art practice.
DeZuniga (1932–2012) was born in the Philippines and studied graphic design before building a career in advertising and comics. He was the first Filipino comic book artist published by American companies, a breakthrough that opened the way for later generations, and he is best known for his work with DC Comics, where he co-created Jonah Hex and Black Orchid.
The show also carries a local dimension: after retiring, DeZuniga settled in Stockton, where he mentored young and emerging artists in the years after his professional career had ended.
