The Museo de Arte Moderno de Medellín will host Carolina Caycedo on Tuesday, August 4, for two public events connected to the museum’s current exhibition program. The artist will first take part in ‘Tororoí Resiste’, a participatory geocoreography in the Plazoleta MAMM at 4:30 p.m., followed by ‘Conversación con Carolina Caycedo’ at 6:30 p.m. in the museum’s Nave central. Both activities are listed as free, and the museum says registration is open for the participatory action.
According to the museum’s event listings, the afternoon action is presented in collaboration with the Sociedad Antioqueña de Ornitología (SAO). Participants will use their bodies to form a live image in the territory and draw attention to the protection of the tororoí de Urrao, or Grallaria urraoensis, an endemic species from Antioquia that inhabits high-mountain cloud forests and bamboo groves in the Páramo del Sol. The museum describes the bird as facing threats linked to habitat transformation, loss of habitat, livestock expansion and other pressures on the territory.
The format of ‘Tororoí Resiste’ is part of Caycedo’s broader geocoreographic practice, which the museum defines as collective actions in which the body becomes a poetic and political tool for creating live images about landscape. The event page says these actions are developed with communities, organizations and varied participants, and respond to ecological transformations driven by extractivism and other activities that threaten human and more-than-human life.
The evening conversation is set in the context of two exhibitions currently or recently on view at the museum: ‘Nos habitan pájaros y montañas’ and ‘La luz, el fuego y la ceniza’. The museum says curators Marielsa Castro, chief curator of the MAMM and of ‘Nos habitan pájaros y montañas’, and Ana Ruiz Valencia, curator of ‘La luz, el fuego y la ceniza’, will speak with Caycedo about her works, the themes in her practice, and the dialogue her work establishes with the exhibitions. Caycedo’s work is part of both shows, according to the museum.
The conversation will also include the presentation of the official catalogues for both exhibitions. The museum describes those publications as bringing together texts, images and reflections on the exhibitions and their curatorial processes, and frames the presentation as a chance to deepen engagement with the first exhibition cycle of the year.
‘La luz, el fuego y la ceniza’ is on view in Salas B and C and is listed at the museum from March 26 to August 9, 2026. The exhibition, curated by Ana Ruiz Valencia, gathers work by multiple artists, including Carolina Caycedo, and explores food as a political, cultural and spiritual axis through a public program that includes performances and participatory actions. ‘Nos habitan pájaros y montañas’ is cited by the museum as part of the frame for the conversation, while ‘Tororoí Resiste’ will take place in the Plazoleta MAMM before the artist discussion begins.
