Naoyuki Ogino will be present during the exhibition’s closing weekend.
Together with art critic Mariko Takeuchi and literary scholar Tatsunori Tanbe, Ogino will hold the Shashin Zadan-ten event, an informal gathering to converse about photography and enjoy sencha tea. Ogino initiated Shashin Zadan-ten in 2013, and on Sunday 25 October he will host the gathering as an intimate meeting centered on conversation and meaningful exchange. A small group of participants will sit at the heart of the exhibition space, surrounded by artworks, and share sencha prepared by a certified sencha tea master.
In ‘Penumbras Everywhere,’ Ogino reflects on the penumbra as the space where light and shadow overlap, photographing the overlapping shadows cast by artworks and visitors during the 2024 Venice Biennale. These fleeting penumbras gradually formed abstract, otherworldly landscapes, while the resulting images became visual meditations on transformation, uncertainty and the myths that emerge from living in-between.
Born in Tokyo in 1975, Ogino was raised in both Japan and Mexico. He studied physics at Nagoya University before leaving a career in advertising to pursue photography full-time in 2006.
