The Glucksman in Cork has opened 'Panorama Europa', an exhibition bringing together work by ten Irish artists who engage with traditions of European painting to explore contemporary identities and wider societal issues. According to the gallery, the show includes paintings, tapestries, sculptures and drawings that reference art from the Pre-Renaissance through to Impressionism, inviting visitors to consider how artists draw on historical pictorial forms to create new modes of representation.
The exhibition is on view until 1 November 2026 at The Glucksman, University College Cork. The gallery’s July newsletter also notes that public tours are available for the exhibition, with bookings required, and that the gallery is open Tuesday to Sunday, 11am to 5pm, with free entry and a suggested donation of €5.
The artists featured in 'Panorama Europa' are Ursula Burke, Michael Canning, Sian Costello, Genieve Figgis, Claire Halpin, David Eager Maher, Rachel Fallon, Eleanor McCaughey, Isabel Nolan and Geraldine O’Neill. The exhibition is curated by Fiona Kearney and Katie O’Grady. The Glucksman describes the project as a reflection on art histories and on the ways contemporary makers reinterpret diverse visual tropes in response to present-day concerns.
The exhibition takes its title from a commissioned work for the University College Cork art collection by Claire Halpin, developed in partnership with the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence for EU Integration and Citizens’ Rights. On the exhibition page, the gallery says this work evokes renowned works of art across a present-day canvas of events, and frames history and tradition as grounds for reclamation and caution.
The show is part of a broader summer programme at the gallery that also includes 'Selected Works from the UCC Art Collection', which is on view until 1 November 2026. That exhibition presents contemporary Irish artworks, including new commissions and acquisitions, and addresses themes of health and wellbeing, climate action and sustainability, and equality, diversity and inclusion.
The Glucksman says its UCC Art Collection focuses on modern and contemporary Irish art and is displayed across the University College Cork campus as well as in the gallery. Its collection programme is supported in accordance with the Museum Standards Programme for Ireland, and the gallery notes that the works are intended as a resource for teaching, research and public engagement. 'Panorama Europa' is supported by University College Cork, the Arts Council of Ireland and private philanthropy through Cork University Foundation.
