The Art + Practice exhibition is presented in collaboration with the California African American Museum and the Getty Center. Hodges’s art is presented simultaneously at three Los Angeles venues: CAAM, Art + Practice, and the Getty Center.
The exhibition is part of a three-venue presentation that includes 'Reggie Burrows Hodges: A Theater of Miracles' at CAAM and 'Reggie Burrows Hodges: A Theater of Passions' at the Getty Center. At Art + Practice, the exhibition presents paintings inspired by Hodges’s memories of childhood in Compton, the legacy of Leimert Park, and his experiences traveling through Europe.
Hodges is known for black and jewel-toned paintings of labor, community rituals, and solitary moments that combine observations of contemporary life with traditional techniques associated with the Renaissance era. He builds compositions from black grounds, using them to give form and substance to figures whose contours are implied through lushly rendered environments.
The exhibition is curated by Bridget R. Cooks and co-presented by the California African American Museum and Art + Practice as part of CAAM at A+P, a five-year collaboration. It runs from October 20, 2026, through February 27, 2027.
