Lemvig Museum and Jens Søndergaards Museum are preparing a special day for the partial solar eclipse on 12 August 2026, with a ticketed programme that links astronomy to art, poetry and the coastal landscape at Bovbjerg in western Denmark. The event, titled 'Solen går i sort over Bovbjerg', runs from 14:00 to 21:30 and is billed as a day in the “sun, moon, art and landscape,” according to the museum’s event page and newsletter.

The eclipse itself is expected to begin at about 19:08, reach its peak at around 20:04 and end at 20:57, shortly before sunset over the North Sea. The museum says that at Bovbjerg around 86 per cent of the sun will be covered at maximum. The event is described as taking place in “some of Denmark’s most beautiful settings,” with the horizon over the Vesterhavet forming part of the experience.

The programme brings together two museum sites and the landscape between them. A solsystem exhibition at Lemvig Museum and guided walks on the Planetstien are included before the eclipse gathering at Jens Søndergaards Museum on Bovbjerg, where the eclipse will be experienced with an open view toward the sea. The museum’s materials frame the day as combining guided interpretation, astronomical observation and cultural activities rather than as a conventional exhibition opening or performance.

Tickets are limited to 175. The admission package includes entry to both museums, a guided tour on Planetstien, eclipse glasses, a sundowner with or without alcohol, and interpretation about solar eclipses at Bovbjerg. The museum also says the ticket gives discounts at selected restaurants in Lemvig for lunch, afternoon coffee and dinner, and that several hotels, restaurants, cafés and shops in Lemvig are supporting the event with special offers for ticket holders.

The guided walks on Planetstien are said to last about 30 to 45 minutes. Initial departures are scheduled for 14:00, 15:00 and 16:00, with additional half-hourly tours to be added if those fill up. Registration for the walks is handled after ticket purchase by email or phone. The museum lists adult tickets at 150 kroner and children’s tickets at 75 kroner.

The event appears in the museum’s summer newsletter alongside other seasonal programming, but the eclipse day is presented as a standalone highlight. The newsletter notes heavy demand for summer activities overall and says several events have been oversubscribed, while encouraging visitors to buy tickets through the museum’s website. The eclipse page likewise directs visitors to the online programme and ticketing details for 'Solen går i sort over Bovbjerg'.
