The Kröller-Müller Museum is highlighting Sonsbeek 2026 with a walking route through its sculpture garden that links ten selected works and traces the shared history between the museum and the Sonsbeek arts project. The museum says the route can be followed in and around the sculpture garden and is available until 11 October 2026.
The museum’s own description places the project within Sonsbeek 2026, the 13th edition of the open-air sculpture exhibition in and around Arnhem. On its website, Kröller-Müller notes that Sonsbeek has been organised by Sonsbeek art projects since 1949 and that the museum has been closely involved from the beginning. According to the museum, many of the sculptures in its garden were once shown in earlier Sonsbeek editions.
The walking route is presented as a way to explore that overlap in a direct, on-site format. Rather than framing the story as a single exhibition at the museum, the route leads visitors past ten selected sculptures and offers information about the shared cultural heritage connecting the two institutions. The museum says a booklet for the walk is available at the entrance and that the route takes about an hour.
Among the works currently drawing attention in the sculpture garden is Krijn Giezen’s 'Kijk Uit Attention'. The museum says the piece has recently been restored and returned to the state intended by the artist. On its collection page, Kröller-Müller identifies the work as dating from 1986-2005 and notes its materials as hardwood, concrete and glass. The work is described as an “unusual walk through the forest,” beginning at John Rädecker’s sculpture 'Gewei' and ending in an 87-metre staircase that rises above the trees.
The museum’s summer programme places the route alongside other outdoor and music-related activities. A concert by Gravity Strings in the Rietveldpaviljoen is scheduled for 30 July and 6 August as part of Muziekzomer Gelderland, with the quartet presenting music inspired by Isaac Israels’ travels and references to European cultures. The newsletter also points visitors to the exhibition 'Het Europa van Isaac Israels' and to family activities in the garden, but those items are separate from the Sonsbeek walk.
Kröller-Müller says the museum and sculpture garden are open Tuesday through Sunday and on public holidays from 10:00 to 17:00, with daily summer opening from 6 July to 24 August 2026. The Sonsbeek walking route runs through the sculpture garden until 11 October 2026, with the booklet available at the museum entrance.
