Matt Copson’s exhibition is scheduled to run from March to 22 August 2027, in a presentation identified as Copson’s first major institutional solo presentation in the UK.
The exhibition centres on one of Britain’s best-known folkloric figures, Robin Hood, described by Serpentine as the archetypal noble outlaw known for redistributing wealth. Inspired by Copson’s interest in theme-park rides, the exhibition takes the form of a labyrinth, leading visitors through a journey.
The new works will incorporate laser projection, sculpture, animatronics and audio pieces.
Copson’s multidisciplinary practice spans laser animation, sculpture, opera, film and performance. Using theatrical devices, it creates site-specific and multi-sensory installations. His work draws on myth, folklore and pop culture to explore contemporary life, shaped by spectacle, attention and constant flux.
In 2016, his play without actors, 'A Woodland Truce', was presented as part of a series of experimental performances at Serpentine North.
