'The Fisher People' Brings 32 Photographs to Biloxi

'The Fisher People' Brings 32 Photographs to Biloxi Image: Ohr-O'Keefe Museum Of Art, Biloxi

'The Fisher People' is on view from October 6 through November 21, 2026, on the second floor of the City of Biloxi Center for Ceramics. The exhibition brings together 32 photographs by Olivia Aylsworth and Tim Isbell documenting Vietnamese immigrant communities and their impact on the coastal fishing industry.

While working on a four-part documentary series of the same name, Aylsworth spent three years documenting the community she connected with. Her work is rooted in trusted relationships with her subjects, with local voices and lived histories guiding its narrative and bringing raw, unfiltered human experiences to life.

Isbell, a long-time photojournalist on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, contributes photographs of the same community made nearly 30 years ago. While working for the Sun Herald, he spent nine months documenting the coastal Vietnamese immigrant population for his series 'The People Within'; the resulting 54-photo project earned a National Endowment for the Arts grant and captured a pivotal chapter in the community’s history.

Together, the images capture subtle interactions between people, heritage and the natural environment, while each photograph preserves a story passed down through generations and brings these lived experiences to light.

An artist talk accompanying After Hours at OOMA is scheduled for October 15 from 5–7 PM.
