Underdogs presents ‘Totem Metellos’, a new limited edition by Moroccan contemporary artist Ghizlane Agzenaï, created exclusively for Underdogs.

Agzenaï’s signature Totems are intuitive geometric compositions conceived as objects representing benevolent spirits, and they have taken shape across painting, sculpture, installation, and public space.

The material transition also offered Agzenaï an opportunity to challenge the precision that usually characterises her practice by embracing the imperfections and expressive qualities of a traditional, handmade process; the result is a more organic interpretation of her familiar compositions, with the marks of the artist’s hand becoming part of the artwork.

The title reflects another influence behind the work: a lifelong fan of Star Wars, Agzenaï has recently begun naming her Totems after planets from the fictional universe, and Metellos is one of them.

Agzenaï describes the aim behind her artistic practice in direct terms: ‘At the heart of everything I create, there is a simple desire: to share love, light and joy through form and colour.’
