A performance of Morton Feldman’s ‘For Philip Guston’ is scheduled for Friday, November 13, 2026, at 3 p.m., at The Met Fifth Avenue, in the Robert Lehman Wing, Court Level. The performance honors the centenary of composer Morton Feldman and is presented in conjunction with the Met’s Department of Modern and Contemporary Art.

Feldman’s epic ‘For Philip Guston’ is a four-and-a-half-hour work composed in 1984. The work reflects on the memory of Feldman’s intense and occasionally tumultuous artistic relationship with trailblazing artist Philip Guston, with whom he was once close friends.

The two men drifted apart in the late 1960s, when Guston turned away from abstraction toward figurative art. After Guston’s death, Feldman began to appreciate the freedom of his friend’s artistic transformation and the affinities between their later works.

Amid the elegant architecture of the Lehman Wing atrium, the performance can be experienced at any point, or audiences can immerse themselves fully for the work’s entire duration. The performance features Alice Teyssier on flutes, Nathan Davis on percussion, and Manuel Laufer on piano and celesta.
