‘Masters of Reinvention’ Reimagines Tradition Through Contemporary Art

The curation brought together Andy Burgess, Deborah Azzopardi, Margo Selby, Cristina Schek, Alastair Gordon, Elaine Woo MacGregor, Jo Holdsworth, Jemma Gowland and Carolyn Tripp.

‘Masters of Reinvention’ brings together nine artists who demonstrate that the most compelling contemporary art rarely rejects tradition; instead, it reimagines it.

Andy Burgess was represented by ‘Kaufman House’, made in 2024 as a screenprint and archival-pigment work. Jemma Gowland’s ‘Your Move’, also dated 2026, used a wooden table and porcelain chess pieces, with the queen and king made from porcelain and gold lustre.

Gowland’s porcelain sculptures playfully challenge historical ideas of femininity through the language of decorative ceramics. Carolyn Tripp’s intimate porcelain vessels transform fragments of personal memory into layered visual narratives.

The presentation continued with Alastair Gordon debuting a new Scottish series after his residency and solo exhibition at Wimbledon Museum; Elaine Woo MacGregor presenting new work following the publication of her first monograph, ‘Daughters of the Silk Roads’; and Jo Holdsworth making her British Art Fair debut. Deborah Azzopardi was represented by ‘Pure Gold’, a 2013 work using a real 24-carat gold-leaf background.
