Museo de Arte Moderno in Mexico City presents 'Remedios Varo. Habitantes de lo insólito'

The Museo de Arte Moderno (MAM) in Mexico City is showing 'Remedios Varo. Habitantes de lo insólito' (Inhabitants of the Unusual), an exhibition devoted to the painter Remedios Varo. The presentation occupies the museum's Sala C and, according to the museum's exhibition listing, remains on view into 2027. It has been organised by the MAM curatorial team.

The exhibition focuses on Varo's pictorial universe, populated by archetypal figures caught between scientific discovery and mystical ritual. Alongside paintings from the MAM collection, it brings together preparatory sketches, notebooks, the 'psycho-humorous' experiments she conceived, and books from her personal library.

The museum recently drew attention to the show in a social media post remembering Varo, inviting visitors to see the exhibition and to look for more of her work in Sala B. There, 'La colección. Redes y trayectorias del arte mexicano, 1910–1950' (The Collection: Networks and Trajectories of Mexican Art, 1910–1950) proposes a new reading of the museum's holdings around art, politics and national identity in post-revolutionary Mexico, with works by Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, David Alfaro Siqueiros, Rufino Tamayo and Varo herself. That collection display also continues into 2027.
