Nevada Museum of Art's 'Into the Time Horizon' nominated for an ARTnews Award

'Into the Time Horizon' at the Nevada Museum of Art in Reno has been nominated for Best Thematic Museum Exhibition in the 2026 ARTnews Awards. The category recognises a group show at a museum or nonprofit institution with a strong curatorial point of view, and the winners will be announced during Art Week NYC, from 11 to 14 November.

The exhibition, curated by Apsara DiQuinzio, the museum's chief curator, with assistant curator Kolin Perry, fills every gallery of the museum and brings together nearly 200 artists. It runs until 3 January 2027, with some sections changing over its course. According to the museum, it asks how humanity might move forward ethically and responsibly on the planet, with care for future generations, and aims to strengthen protection of the Earth and build awareness of environmental concerns.

The title borrows an economic term for the point in the future set for the length of an investment. The museum links it to Kim Stanley Robinson's novel 'The Ministry for the Future', which treats the environment's time horizon as the window that remains to avert the worst effects of climate change. It also notes that Reno is the fastest-warming city in the United States, with Las Vegas second.

Organised in seven thematic sections, the exhibition includes work by Jeffrey Gibson, Ernesto Neto, El Anatsui, Mark Dion, Pierre Huyghe, Maya Lin, Rebecca Belmore, Otobong Nkanga, Kiki Smith and Mitch Epstein, among many others. More than half of the participating artists identify as female, and ecofeminism runs through the show as a recurring theme.

Other nominees in the category include the 59th Carnegie International in Pittsburgh and 'MONUMENTS' at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA and The Brick in Los Angeles.
