Museo Picasso Málaga will host a lecture by Michael FitzGerald on Wednesday 28 October 2026 at 7 p.m. on the challenges of curating an exhibition that presents Picasso’s work as a whole. The session will take place at the Christine Ruiz-Picasso Auditorium.
FitzGerald, Kluger Family Professor of Art History at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, and director of research at the Almine and Bernard Ruiz-Picasso Foundation for Art, will address the curatorial process behind the exhibition ‘Pablo Picasso: Structures of Invention. The Unity of a Work’.
He will describe the decisions made in designing the exhibition for Museo Picasso Málaga from the collections of the museum and FABA. He will also recount the challenges encountered during the project and the strategies used to resolve them.
The session will consider whether an exhibition can show the diversity and unity of an artistic career spanning more than eight decades at the same time. It will also address the decisions involved in constructing new narratives and connections between works created at very different moments.
The conference is presented as part of the celebration of the 23rd anniversary of Museo Picasso Málaga.
