Kunsthalle Emden will extend its hours on 7 July for its regular ‘Langer Kunstabend’, opening the museum until 9 p.m. with free admission during the evening and free participation in all Kunstabend events from 5 to 9 p.m., supported by the Aloys Wobben Stiftung. Visitors will be able to see the museum’s current exhibitions in a more informal setting, and a Kunstabend tour is scheduled for 6 p.m. Places for the guided visit can be booked online in advance.

The evening brings together several exhibitions currently on view at the museum. Among them is the anniversary exhibition ‘BILDER, DIE WIR LIEBEN’, marking 40 years of Kunsthalle Emden and running from 26 April 2026 to 2 May 2027. Also included in the current programme is the light installation ‘EIGHT, PLANETS, ONE STAR, ONE WORLD’ by Mischa Kuball in the atrium, and the cabinet exhibition ‘AM HAFEN. Die Sammlung der Kunsthalle Emden begegnet Bodo Olthoff’, which closes on 2 August.

Kunsthalle Emden says the long evening takes place on the first Tuesday of each month. For this July edition, the institution is emphasising ease of access: the museum is open until 9 p.m., and the special admission arrangement applies only in the evening hours, beginning at 5 p.m. The combination of free entry and guided access is intended to let visitors explore the current displays without the usual daytime schedule.

The cabinet show ‘AM HAFEN’ focuses on maritime imagery in the Kunsthalle’s collection and on the work of Emden artist Bodo Olthoff, born in 1940. According to the museum, the exhibition places seascapes from the collection alongside more than 40 seascapes by Olthoff, while the collection works include around 20 pieces by artists such as Lyonel Feininger, Emil Nolde and Frans Masereel. The exhibition is presented as Olthoff’s first showing at Kunsthalle Emden and places particular emphasis on his graphic work.

The museum describes ‘AM HAFEN’ as an encounter between collection works created over the past century and Olthoff’s own engagement with the sea, the coast and the harbour landscape. The show also highlights Emden’s Ratsdelft and the changing relationship between harbour, city and region, as seen through maritime painting. In the museum’s presentation, Olthoff’s works are linked to his own experiences, including sailing and later artistic study and work in Münster, Stuttgart and Ostfriesland.

For the long art evening, the Kunsthalle is also offering a public guided tour at 6 p.m., with limited places available via the museum’s online shop. The institution notes that admission from 5 to 9 p.m. and all Kunstabend events are free on this day thanks to support from the Aloys Wobben Stiftung. The event runs on 7 July 2026, with the museum open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
