A new exhibition is scheduled to run from 9 October through 11 July 2027. It will take the 1123 foundation charter of Münster Abbey as its starting point for introducing visitors to the 12th century.
In 1123, the title ‘count of Luxembourg’ was mentioned for the first time in the charter founding Münster Abbey.
Fundatio presents this period as a turning point: in 963, the Bock rock was, for Sigefroid, one possession among others, while from this point the first elements emerged that would give birth, several decades later, to a true city.
The exhibition also places Luxembourg’s history within the wider Holy Roman Empire, where the temporary end of the conflict between pope and emperor saw new powers emerge and led to major political changes.
Its transnational perspective includes a selection of objects from European institutions and museums, illustrating unexpected links established by the first Luxembourg dynasty across the region and as far as Saxony and Aquitaine. Alongside rare medieval objects, the exhibition presents key figures from the Middle Ages in Luxembourg, as well as objects from European institutions and museums.
