The exhibition ‘Fontanesi—Light of Italy, Landscapes of the Heart’ is scheduled to run from October 17, 2026, through January 24, 2027.

The exhibition is described as Japan’s first major retrospective of Antonio Fontanesi. The museum presents Fontanesi as a 19th-century Italian modern landscape painter whose work had a major influence on modern Japanese Western-style painting.

Approximately 200 works will be shown, encompassing Fontanesi’s work from his early period through his later years, together with works by his Japanese pupils and by later Italian painters.

The exhibition is jointly organized by the Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum, the Civic Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Turin, and the Turin Museums Foundation.

A banner on the museum’s exterior looks good against the red brick.
