The Artist’s Voice: Tony Oursler with Susan Goldberg, Meghan Clare Considine, and Nora Burnett Abrams is scheduled for Thursday, October 15, at 7 p.m.; the discussion features Oursler, a pioneering video artist and former MassArt faculty member, alongside Goldberg, president of GBH, and Considine, an ICA Curatorial Assistant, with Abrams, the ICA’s Ellen Matilda Poss Director, serving as moderator.
Beginning in 1983, the Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston partnered with WGBH’s New Television Workshop and a group of artists to launch the Contemporary Art Television Fund, known as the CAT Fund. The initiative’s goal was to commission and co-produce experimental video art while supporting its distribution, including broadcasting the work directly into living rooms.
The conversation revisits this moment in contemporary art and Boston’s key role in the history of video art, while exploring current debates around public broadcasting and cultural access.
The ICA presents the program to accompany its 90th-anniversary celebration of championing contemporary art and artists.
