The term ‘solastalgia’ expresses the sense of loss or longing that individuals and communities experience when environmental change reshapes their home beyond recognition. Such change can occur through events including wildfires, floods or drought.
The exhibition features artwork exploring environmental change in the American landscape. Its focus includes the ways shifting ecosystems affect homes, communities and people’s sense of belonging. The program asks whether art can help people process and respond to these changes, and invites participants to consider that question through creative activities and conversation.
Nathalie Miebach, one of the eight artists featured in the 115th Annual Exhibition of Contemporary Art: American Solastalgia, will discuss her creative process, artwork and journey. The event is supported by the Outten Endowed Visiting Artists Program and includes a reception; it is free and open to the public.
The Maier Museum of Art at Randolph College is located at 1 Quinlan St., Lynchburg, Virginia.
