A tour related to ‘Kaihō: Japanese Women Artists after 1945’ is scheduled for 14 October 2026 from 18:00 to 19:00 in the galleries. Anaël Daoud, an assistant curator, is named with the tour. Access is free, with maximum attendance set at 20.

From Gutai to experiments in video art, ‘Kaihō’ explores the radical yet often overlooked contributions of women artists from Japan to global postwar art movements.

Organised into thematic sections, ‘Kaihō: Japanese Women Artists after 1945’ provides an insight into dynamic cultural exchanges and the forgotten margins of modernism. The exhibition draws from the artists’ personal lives, creative resilience and transnational activism.

The exhibition brings together works by Atsuko Tanaka, Yayoi Kusama, Yoko Ono, Fujiko Nakaya, Tomie Ohtake, Taeko Tomiyama and Yoshiko Shimada, among many others. Some of the works have rarely, if ever, been shown outside Japan.
