MMCA Seoul is highlighting Joo Jae-hwan’s ‘My Money’.
Joo Jae-hwan, born in 1941, makes the bank passbook—the most ordinary financial document in everyday life—the subject of the work.
Through linguistic devices, the work reveals the relationship between money and life.
At the center of the composition, an actual page from a bank passbook is attached. The page contains records of deposits and withdrawals.
The artist’s repeated handwritten use of the words ‘my money’ densely surrounds the page.
