The Alexandria Museum of Art will host a figure drawing workshop with guest instructor Edgar Cano Lopez on Aug. 1, 2026, offering participants a four-hour session inside the museum’s galleries. The class is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is limited to 10 people ages 18 and older, with registration already available through the museum’s online shop.

According to the museum’s event listing, Cano Lopez will lead the workshop as a guest instructor in a live-model setting designed to help participants develop figure-drawing skills. The class description says attendees will work on observation, technique, anatomy, proportion and gesture, with focused instruction provided throughout the session. The workshop is presented as suitable for artists of all experience levels, though the small class size indicates an intimate format rather than a large public program.

The museum’s registration page identifies Cano Lopez as an assistant professor of art at Northwestern State University. The same listing states that the workshop will take place in the museum’s galleries, turning the museum space itself into the site of instruction and drawing practice. Ticket pricing is set at $80 for members and $100 for non-members.

The event announcement also notes that registration cancellations are refundable until two weeks before the event date, less processing fees. Cancellations made less than two weeks before Aug. 1 are non-refundable. Those details suggest the workshop is being handled through the museum’s class-and-events platform, alongside other educational offerings currently listed by the institution.

The figure drawing class appears within a broader summer and early fall program at AMoA. In the museum’s email newsletter, the workshop is promoted alongside additional events including ‘Art Together: Paint It Out’ on Aug. 8 and the ‘Muse Teen Activist Art Workshop’ on Aug. 15. The newsletter also points readers to the museum’s ongoing exhibition schedule and to membership and support initiatives.

Among the exhibitions highlighted in the same mailing are the ‘39th September Competition’ in the Lipsey Gallery, ‘Between the Lines: 250 Years of American Poetry’ in the Overlook Gallery, and a presentation of Josep María García-Llort paintings in the community galleries. All three are listed as on view now through Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026. The museum also notes Blue Star Museums admission for active-duty military personnel and their families through Labor Day, following the national program announced by the National Endowment for the Arts.

For the figure drawing workshop, the central details remain straightforward: a single-day class, a live model, a 10-person cap, and an Aug. 1 schedule in the museum’s galleries in Alexandria.
