Fotografiska Tallinn will open Heikki Leis’s exhibition 'Torm enne vaikust' on 8 October, with the opening scheduled for 18:00. The exhibition is listed as running from 9 October 2026 through 7 March 2027.
The Estonian artist and photographer examines the primal connection between humans and water, focusing on how immersion changes the body, movement and ordinary perception. Its subject is the relationship between people and water, viewed through the transformations that take place when the body enters the water.
The exhibition comprises two photographic series, 'Voolujooned' and 'Virdpinnad'. Across them, bodies rotate, bend and intertwine underwater, while the rippling surface distorts faces and familiar forms.
Leis presents water as a force that blurs boundaries and temporarily releases the body from physical and social constraints. In doing so, water creates space for lightness, movement and freedom.
The opening programme includes a tour of the exhibition led by Leis and curator Stella Mõttus. A book launch for Leis’s 'Storm Before the Silence' is scheduled for 21 October at 18:00.
