The Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow has opened a new exhibition titled 'The Art of Distinction. Russian Imperial Badges and Tokens from the Pushkin Museum Collection'. The display, presented from July 28 to October 4, brings together 42 objects on the White Floor, a space in front of Room 7 in the museum’s Main Building.
According to the museum, most of the works come from its own unique collection of Russian badges and tokens. The exhibition also includes examples of medal art and decorative arts from the Russian Empire in the Pushkin Museum’s holdings. The museum says the selection can be seen with any admission ticket to the Main Building.
The show is organized around a recently published catalog by Ulyana Volkova, 'Russian Badges and Tokens of the 19th and Early 20th Centuries from the Pushkin Museum Collection'. Volkova, identified by the museum as a senior researcher in its numismatics department, also serves as curator of the exhibition.
The presentation places small-scale objects at the center of attention: medals, tokens and breast badges that combine historical information with craftsmanship. While the museum’s announcement does not list individual works in the online text, it frames the exhibition as a focused look at a specialized part of the Pushkin Museum’s collection and as a companion to scholarly publication.
The Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, one of Moscow’s major art institutions, announced the exhibition in its newsletter and on its ticketing pages. The museum’s notice gives the venue as the Main Building at Volkhonka 12, with the exhibition accessible there until October 4.
The exhibition remains on view in the Main Building through October 4.
