On Wednesday, October 14, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Image Centre Director and curator Paul Roth will give a special talk focused on Richard Avedon’s influential series ‘Jacob Israel Avedon’.
The series chronicled the photographer’s father’s final years through nine portraits.
The photographs were first displayed at New York’s Museum of Modern Art in 1974 and are now on view at The Image Centre.
The series was regarded by some as Avedon’s masterpiece and criticized by others as exploitative and cruel.
Roth will discuss the series in depth, addressing the man behind the portraits, his relationship with his famous photographer son, and the making of the seminal MoMA exhibition.
