The publication is presented on the occasion of the Bicentenary of photography, which runs from 1 September 2026 to 30 September 2027.
Rather than functioning as an inventory, the book constructs a visual narrative in which photographs from different periods, photographic approaches and geographies are placed in dialogue.
The publication moves from Sabine Weiss’s humanist photography to the contemporary explorations of Mohamed Bourouissa and Laura Henno, alongside John Batho’s experiments with colour. It also includes Manel Esclusa’s nocturnal worlds and Arthur Tress’s staged images, through which the passage describes a living and plural history of the medium.
The collection belongs to the Château d’Eau, a pioneering institution founded in Toulouse in 1974. The book contains 80 photographs in black and white and colour.
