The exhibition examines how each artist portrayed the human form within the dialogue between Abstract Expressionism and figurative art in the 1960s.
The portfolio is connected to Jules Sherman's Manhattan printing plant, which became a weekend artistic workshop during the changing art scene of 1960s New York. Sherman was a commercial printer, and the plant was described as a “joyous atelier on the weekends.”
One named work in the exhibition is Fairfield Porter's 'Child Writing,' a 1963 lithograph on paper. The work is identified as a lithograph on paper made in 1963.
The exhibition is organized by the Asheville Art Museum and Hailey Kasney, a curatorial intern, with support from the International Fine Prints & Drawings Association Foundation. The Asheville Art Museum describes itself as a North Carolina museum exhibiting 20th-century American art.
