In the 1980s, the Brooklyn Academy of Music began commissioning top-tier contemporary visual artists to design limited-edition posters.
The stated goal of these commissions was to create a bridge between the avant-garde art world and the experimental performance artists participating in the institution’s yearly Next Wave Festival.
The poster has been protected by a frame for the last 40 years, although the frame may now need to be replaced.
