Maura Wright Named 2026 Martin Shallenberger Artist-in-Residence

Maura Wright is the 2026 Martin Shallenberger Artist-in-Residence, with the residency listed through October 4. Cheekwood directs audiences to an interview with Wright as an introduction to her residency and creative process, then invites them to discover more about her work and time at Cheekwood.

The museum says Wright’s residency will focus on Cheekwood’s decorative-arts holdings, including the porcelain collection, alongside the gardens and the estate’s historic architecture.

Wright is based in Kansas City, Missouri, and works in clay vessels and sculptural forms. Her practice combines sculptural ceramics with painted environments that evoke frescoed interiors and decorative wall treatments, creating installations that consider the relationship between objects, ornament and the spaces they inhabit.

An image caption on the event page identifies Wright’s 2024 work ‘Yellow Amphora’ as made from earthenware, slip, glaze and luster. Wright received an MFA from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University in 2018 and a BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute in 2013.
