The Ōtsuka Museum of Art in Naruto, Tokushima Prefecture, is holding its Art Cosplay Festival for the 10th year. According to the museum, the anniversary edition runs from 18 July to 8 November 2026.
The festival asks participants to wear clothing matching famous paintings and act as the figures depicted in them.
This year’s costume selection covers 10 artworks in total, from returning favourites to new designs, including Vermeer’s ‘Girl with a Pearl Earring’ and Leonardo da Vinci’s ‘Mona Lisa’.
In a Kansai TV report broadcast on 21 September, one visitor said they had not previously seen the original painting, but that wearing the costume made them realize such a work existed and want to look at it more slowly and closely.
