The Lenbachhaus lecture series opens with a talk by Matthias Mühling and Karin Althaus on the donation of Franz von Lenbach’s estate to the museum.
The series forms part of the museum’s preparation for its centenary in 2029, with projects developing over several years rather than being concentrated exclusively in the anniversary year.
The programme will address the Lenbachhaus’s collection, exhibition and institutional history through a critical as well as appreciative examination of the museum’s changing past.
It will also acknowledge the donation by Hedwig and Isabella Neven DuMont while examining the changing history of Franz von Lenbach and the museum named after him.
The series will present the archive’s significance and its diverse potential for art-historical and historical research.
