Henry Moore Studios & Gardens will mark Henry Moore’s 128th birthday with a family-friendly celebration on Thursday 30 July, offering sculpture workshops, birthday cake and guided tours at the artist’s former home and workplace in Perry Green, Hertfordshire. The event is scheduled from 13:00 to 16:00 and is included in an annual ticket.

The Henry Moore Foundation describes the day as an afternoon of creativity, cake and sculpture. Visitors will be able to drop in for 'Collaborative Carving' between 13:00 and 16:00, a hands-on workshop that uses plaster blocks and shared making to explore how a sculpture can evolve through several participants’ contributions. The foundation says each participant will take home a unique sculpture shaped by the group process.

To mark the birthday, the café will serve 128 slices of cake, one for each year since Moore’s birth. The cake is being provided courtesy of Honeybuns Gluten-free Bakery, and visitors can receive a complimentary slice with every drink purchased in the café, while stocks last. The celebration is open to families, art lovers and visitors of all ages, though children must be accompanied by an adult.

The birthday event sits within a broader 2026 programme at Henry Moore Studios & Gardens. The site presents itself as the world’s largest and most comprehensive collection of Moore’s work, set within the artist’s home, studios and landscape. For 2026, Sheep Field Barn has been reimagined as a welcoming space for exploring Moore’s life and work, with a permanent introduction to his career and a changing exhibition programme.

Among the current displays is 'The Art and Life of Henry Moore', which the foundation says presents over eighty sculptures made between 1922 and 1986, along with photographs and archival materials from the Henry Moore Foundation Collections. A separate 2026 display, 'Henry Moore: Shelter Drawings', focuses on works created during the Second World War and described by the foundation as among the most powerful and widely recognised of Moore’s career.

The birthday celebration also connects with the site’s regular public programme. 'Sculpture Gardens Tour' runs on the last Wednesday of each month in the 2026 visitor season, offering a one-hour tour of the twenty-one sculptures on display across the grounds. The foundation says the tours are led by curators and archive staff and address Moore’s process, the stories behind the works, and their inspiration and concepts.

The event is a drop-in activity, so no booking is required. Entry is included in an annual ticket, which also allows repeat visits during the open season. Henry Moore Studios & Gardens is open Wednesday to Sunday, 11:00 to 17:00, for the 2026 visitor season, which runs from 1 April to 25 October.
