Ystad Art Museum’s exhibition ‘New acquisitions: Johan Röing & Ulla Viotti’ runs from 26 September 2026 to 10 January 2027. The presentation is built around new works added to Ystad’s municipal art collection. It includes four wood sculptures by Johan Röing, alongside one sculpture and drawings by Ulla Viotti. The opening reception is scheduled for Saturday 26 September from noon to 4pm.
In recent years, the museum has worked to add other media to better reflect artistic activity in Skåne. That effort has expanded the collection with several sculptures by artists including Ingrid Furre, Staffan Nihlén, Thale Vangen, Richard Johansson, Truls Melin, Gabriel Karlsson, Ulla Viotti and Johan Röing.
Johan Röing was born in Malmö in 1958 and moved to Düsseldorf as a young man, where he studied at Staatliche Kunstakademie Düsseldorf in the first half of the 1980s. He now lives and works in Fuglie outside Trelleborg. Ulla Viotti (1933–2025) was born in Eskilstuna and trained at the School of Art in Blackpool and later at Konstfack in Stockholm. From the mid-1970s, she was active in Österlen.
Viotti made numerous public works, including ‘Cimbris’ in Simrishamn, ‘Kaptenens gruva’ in Höganäs and the stone floor ‘Rikets matta’ in the Riksdag Library. Ystad Art Museum is a municipal operation supported by Region Skåne and the Swedish Arts Council.
