An exhibition presents three site-specific works by Giovanni Termini: ‘Saturnia’, ‘Grata’ and ‘Starter’.
Curated by Andrea Busto, the exhibition reflects Termini’s redefinition of sculpture as a combination of expanding forms rather than an organisation of static volumes.
Termini uses contrasting everyday objects from varied contexts, made with wood, steel, glass and scaffolding tubes; placed together, they engage viewers both physically and mentally.
The exhibition space becomes a construction site, a key word in Termini’s practice and an environment in continuous progress, advancement and transformation.
A geometric, modular form is assembled into a table-like structure with a large central void holding a dinner for twelve people, accompanied by twenty-four deep plates stacked in pairs.
‘Grata’ is composed of an easel and grids, in which iron and wood coexist symbiotically.
‘Starter’ uses neon lights and ceiling fixtures placed in the empty gallery space like stranded, reflective fish.
Before creating an installation, Termini investigates, absorbs and experiences the space where it will be made; he treats this conceptual and reflective process as vital to the transformation of an idea into form.
