The exhibition brings together work by Cerian Hedd, Eve Slatter, Howl Hubbard, Lilly James, Megan Evans, Ophelia Dos Santos and Pablo Negre, who invigilated for Cymru yn Fenis / Wales in Venice at the 2026 Venice Biennale after being selected through an Arts Council of Wales open call.
The work is not necessarily about Venice itself, but grew out of the artists’ time spent watching, listening, welcoming visitors and encountering art from across the world.
As invigilators of Sownd, the participants occupied a position between host and visitor, spending long periods immersed in the Biennale while living in Venice.
The exhibition asks what happens when creative practice is given permission to become “unruly.” In a city shaped by water, movement, history and constant change, Venice encouraged new perspectives on what art can be, who it is for and where it belongs.
