Mitterrand Presents Wallen Mapondera’s ‘How Do You Even Sleep At Night?’ in Paris

Mitterrand is presenting Wallen Mapondera’s third solo exhibition at the gallery, ‘How Do You Even Sleep At Night?’, in Paris from September 10 to October 10, 2026.

Known for transforming everyday and repurposed materials, Mapondera turns to painting with this new body of work, opening a new chapter in his practice. The exhibition includes the 2026 painting ‘State Judge’.

Drawing on the social and political realities of contemporary Zimbabwe, the exhibition explores tensions between legality, justice and moral responsibility. Rooted in a personal experience, the works question the consequences of institutional decisions and the responsibility of those who make and enforce them.

Through painting, Mapondera gives new form to his ongoing reflection on power and its impact on individual lives.
