Portland Art Museum will present an artist talk with Yinka Ilori on August 8, 2026, bringing the multidisciplinary British-Nigerian artist into conversation with Rukaiyah Adams for a discussion centered on public art, design philosophy and civic space. The museum’s event listing places the talk from 2 to 3 p.m. at Portland Art Museum in Portland, Oregon.
The program is tied to Ilori’s work at the museum, where an upcoming exhibition is listed as 'Yinka Ilori: Mountains Full of Blessings'. The museum describes that project as a monumental work of asphalt art, noting that Ilori, MBE, is internationally known for a colorful, “joy-led” design philosophy. The exhibition is shown on the museum’s website as opening August 8, 2026, and continuing through August 31, 2028.
In the talk description, Ilori is said to discuss how he blends his British-Nigerian heritage, traditional West African parables and a bold use of color to “inject joy into civic spaces.” The museum also says the conversation will explore how community-centric design can dismantle structural barriers, reclaim public architecture and foster “a deep sense of collective belonging and celebration.”
Adams, who will moderate the conversation, is identified by the museum as a community advocate and the chief executive officer of the 1803 Fund. The talk announcement says the event will feature free admission, and the museum’s email promotion frames the day as part of a larger public unveiling for the new Cultural District Plaza and the asphalt art designed by Ilori.
A museum newsletter sent in late July also described the day’s schedule as including a 12 p.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony followed by the 2 p.m. artist talk. The newsletter referred to the plaza and asphalt art as being “officially unveil[ed]” on that date, while the separate event page lists only the artist talk details and location.
Portland Art Museum’s online calendar places the event within a broader run of summer 2026 programming, alongside exhibitions, screenings and lectures across the museum’s campus and related venues. The institution’s exhibitions page also shows 'David Hockney: Works from the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation' continuing through July 26, 2026, while the new Ilori exhibition is listed among the museum’s upcoming displays.
The artist talk is scheduled for August 8, 2026, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Portland Art Museum, 1219 SW Park Ave., Portland.
