The Robert McLaughlin Gallery in Oshawa will present ‘Everyday Matters’ from 5 September 2026 to 22 August 2027. Curated by Sonya Jones, the permanent-collection exhibition considers artistic depictions of common objects, quiet moments and scenes of daily life.
The presentation includes works connected to the traditions of still life and genre painting, alongside contemporary approaches to everyday subjects. Still life centres on inanimate, everyday objects, while genre painting addresses domestic life and labour.
Among the works referenced in the exhibition is André Biéler’s ‘Femmes de Quebec’ (1946), made in mixed technique on masonite and gifted by Isabel McLaughlin in 1987. A work by Charles Goldhamer—an untitled oil on canvas, gifted by the artist in 1984—will also be shown.
A curatorial tour of ‘Everyday Matters’ led by Jones will take place during the Fall Exhibitions Opening on 26 September, from 1pm to 4pm.
