Graciela Iturbide and Enrique Chagoya will appear in conversation at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art on Saturday, 19 September 2026, at 2 p.m. The free artist talk, for which RSVP is required, will take place in the museum’s Wattis Theater.
The programme accompanies ‘Graciela Iturbide: Between Two Worlds’, an exhibition spanning more than five decades of work by the photographer. Iturbide and Chagoya will discuss the arc of Iturbide’s career and stories surrounding her photographs of everyday life in Mexico, the United States, India, Italy and elsewhere.
The speakers will present the conversation in Spanish, with Chagoya translating into English. The event also marks a return to SFMOMA for Iturbide, whose first monographic museum exhibition in the United States was held there in 1990.
An image associated with the event is Iturbide’s ‘Mujer ángel, Desierto de Sonora, México (Angel Woman, Sonora Desert, Mexico)’, 1979, printed later, in SFMOMA’s collection.
