Fujita Museum in Osaka will hold the next installment of its popular ‘Teach Me, Noh Performers!’ series on July 26, offering visitors an introduction to Noh through costumes, masks and discussion with actor Ueda Yoshiteru of the Kanze school’s shite role. The one-hour event, titled ‘Noh Introduction Event,’ runs from 2 pm to 3 pm in the museum’s entrance area, or ‘do-ma,’ and is free to attend without reservation.
The museum’s announcement describes the session as volume 3 of the series and says it will focus on ‘Eguchi,’ a Noh play. According to the museum, the talk will cover the work’s content and origins, as well as the costumes and masks used in performance. The program also includes a hands-on experience using Noh costume materials.
Fujita Museum presents the event as an opportunity to encounter what it calls the ‘yugen’ world of Noh in a cool indoor setting during the summer season. The wording of the announcement also notes the genre’s historical association with Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who is said to have admired its refined aesthetic.
Ueda Yoshiteru is identified by the museum as a Kanze school Noh actor in the shite role. The museum’s page includes a brief biography stating that he was born in 1988 as the eldest son of Ueda Takuji, studied under his father and uncle Ueda Takahiro, and made his stage debut at age two. It also notes later performance milestones, overseas appearances and his graduation from Konan University’s Faculty of Letters, Department of Human Science.
The event is part of a continuing series; the museum lists future ‘Teach Me, Noh Performers!’ dates for September 27 and November 8. For the July 26 session, admission to the event itself is free, while museum entry is charged for visitors who wish to view exhibitions, at 1,000 yen, with free admission for those 19 and under.
Fujita Museum is located in Osaka’s Miyakojima ward, at 10-32 Amijimacho, and the announcement was posted on June 16, 2026.
