Musée Angladon – Collection Jacques Doucet in Avignon will present ‘Les doublures de Paulette’, a seasonal installation by Nathalie Saint-Oyant, from 12 September through 31 December 2026. The project will bring touch and textile materials into the museum’s programme, extending the sensory approach of Saint-Oyant’s concurrent exhibition ‘Au-delà du regard. Une traversée olfactive’.
Installed in the museum’s mediation room, the textile elements are intended to be touched, with the museum particularly inviting younger visitors to engage with the materials. The installation develops the movement beyond visual perception established by the olfactory exhibition, in which Saint-Oyant places works from the museum’s collection in dialogue with scents and textile-based interpretations.
The same room will also feature collages made by Saint-Oyant. In these works, Paulette Angladon becomes the imagined muse of a fantastical fashion collection: the artist invents eccentric silhouettes inspired by works held by the Musée Angladon. The collages connect the museum’s collection to clothing, design and the history of fashion, while giving a fictional wardrobe to one of the figures central to the institution’s history.
Saint-Oyant is the Musée Angladon’s associated artist for the wider project ‘Au-delà du regard. Une traversée olfactive’. That exhibition, also scheduled from 12 September to 31 December 2026, was developed with IFF and Maebh McCurtin, identified by the museum as an exclusive perfumer. It proposes an olfactory route through a selection of the museum’s works, treating smell not as a literal illustration of an image but as a subjective interpretation of it. Textile is a central medium in the project, a connection the seasonal installation makes tactile.
The museum’s programme draws on the legacy of Jacques Doucet, the Belle Époque couturier and collector whose collection forms the basis of the institution. The museum’s permanent holdings include works associated with artists such as Sisley, Van Gogh, Modigliani, Cézanne, Degas, Manet and Picasso, according to the institution’s presentation of Jean Angladon and Paulette Martin. Jean and Paulette were artists and collectors, and inherited works and objects from their granduncle Doucet. They lived and worked in Avignon and wished for their home to become a museum after their deaths.
‘Les doublures de Paulette’ will be on view at Musée Angladon – Collection Jacques Doucet, 5 rue Laboureur, Avignon, from Saturday 12 September to Thursday 31 December 2026. The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from 1pm to 6pm, with last admission at 5:15pm. The installation is included with museum admission.
