NTT InterCommunication Center [ICC] in Tokyo has published a report on the recording session for Hiroyuki Hori’s ‘Michi no Karada’, a participatory media-art work included in its ‘ICC Kids Program 2026: Mikan no Yakusoku—Tsukutte, Toraeru Media Creations’. The blog post, released on July 23, describes a session held at ICC on July 14 for the work’s production, and confirms that the program runs from July 25 to August 30, 2026.

According to ICC, ‘Michi no Karada’ invites visitors to move their bodies inside a booth, where body-tracking technology records the traces of those movements and generates a 3D object. The institution says the work accumulates changes in the positions of hands, feet, and head as time-based data, which are then translated into a sculptural form. The project is designed as an interactive piece in which each visitor can see a 3D object created from their own movements on a screen.

The recording session featured dancer-choreographers Masako Yasumoto and Kaho Kogure, both of whom took part in the capture process at ICC. Their movements were recorded in real time, and the resulting data produced different 3D objects according to the character of each body’s motion. ICC notes that even when the same system is used, the forms generated can vary significantly depending on how the body is used and how it moves.

The blog post also explains that the work extends from digital capture into physical output. In addition to the on-screen 3D objects generated by visitors, the venue will display 3D printed works made from previously recorded movement data. ICC frames this process as an essential part of the piece, linking bodily expression, data conversion, and three-dimensional form.

Visitors to the program will be able to enter the filming booth and move freely to create their own 3D object. ICC describes the experience as a way of considering one’s relationship to body and time through media technology. The associated workshop, ‘Move and You Get Michi no Karada?!’, is scheduled for August 8 and will be facilitated by Yasumoto.

‘ICC Kids Program 2026: Mikan no Yakusoku—Tsukutte, Toraeru Media Creations’ will be held at NTT InterCommunication Center [ICC] in Tokyo from July 25 to August 30, 2026. The venue lists Gallery A and Hyper ICC as the exhibition spaces, with opening hours from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is free, with priority given to advance reservations on the day.
