Stiftung Sitterwerk will host a book launch for Virginia Overton on 17 February 2026, presenting the catalogue for her solo exhibition ‘Material Girl’ and marking the release with a discussion involving the artist and curators. The event begins at 6 pm and is scheduled at Sitterwerk and Kunstgiesserei St. Gallen, with bar service, snacks and fire announced for the evening.
The launch centres on Overton’s exhibition catalogue for ‘Material Girl’, her solo show at Kunstmuseum Winterthur, which ran from 5 September to 9 November 2025. According to Sitterwerk, the publication offers an overview of the artist’s work to date. The foundation describes Overton as a former guest artist and notes that the book reflects her practice with used materials, situated in the traditions of readymade and Minimal Art.
The discussion accompanying the launch brings together Barbara Biedermann of Sitterwerk’s Kunstbibliothek, Lynn Kost of Kunstmuseum Winterthur, Moritz Lehner of Kunstgiesserei St. Gallen and Virginia Overton. The event is framed as both a publication presentation and a conversation about the catalogue’s place within Overton’s wider body of work. Sitterwerk’s listing places the event under its Kunstbibliothek programme.
Sitterwerk’s own description of the institution helps explain why a catalogue launch fits naturally into its calendar. Based in St. Gallen, the foundation brings together the Kunstbibliothek, the Werkstoffarchiv and the Atelierhaus, linking art research, material knowledge and production. Its library includes around 30,000 volumes on sculpture, architecture, photography, material and casting technology, as well as restoration and other fields related to artistic and material practice.
The organisation is also using 2026 as a jubilee year. In its programme materials, Sitterwerk notes that it is celebrating 20 years since its founding in 2006, when the idea of a publicly accessible library took shape. The anniversary programme includes recurring events and interventions across the Kunstbibliothek, and Sitterwerk says that the library continues to grow through collecting, gifts and contributions from artists and users.
The Virginia Overton launch is one entry in that broader programme of library-based presentations. Sitterwerk lists ‘A Library is a Growing Organism’ as an ongoing 2026 series of interventions and talk evenings in the Kunstbibliothek, with Overton included among former guest artists whose publications and materials are being presented. In the same calendar, the foundation also lists other 2026 projects, including ‘SCHWARZ ≠ SCHWARZ. Schwarzfärben im Wandel’ and later anniversary events, but the February evening is specifically devoted to Overton’s catalogue and conversation.
The event takes place on Tuesday, 17 February 2026, from 6 pm to 9 pm at Sitterwerk and Kunstgiesserei St. Gallen.
