Kode presents Vibeke Tandberg exhibition and podcast in Bergen Image: Stenersen

Kode is presenting ‘Vibeke Tandberg. De lever’ at Stenersen in Bergen through 13 September 2026, alongside a new podcast episode tracing the Norwegian artist’s career across several decades. The exhibition opened on 23 May and brings together a long view of Tandberg’s practice, while the accompanying episode offers an audio introduction before or after a museum visit.

Tandberg is described by Kode as one of Norway’s foremost artists. Her career began in Bergen, and the podcast places particular emphasis on the development of her practice from its early photographic work through later shifts in medium and subject. The episode also addresses how Tandberg experienced breaking with a major international career as a photographic artist, asking whether that moment was a rupture or instead a transition.

The exhibition and podcast are part of Kode’s programme of exhibitions, collection-based material and public interpretation in Bergen. Kode operates several art museums and composer homes in the city, including Stenersen, where the Tandberg exhibition is being held. The institution’s podcast, ‘Permanenten: En kulturpodkast fra Kode’, extends the museum’s interpretation beyond its galleries and is available through podcast platforms including Spotify and Apple Podcasts.

The podcast episode, written by Anette Basso, is structured as a journey through Tandberg’s artistic output. It refers to her 1990s photography, horse heads, latex masks and billiard tables, as well as her relationship to the Bergen nightlife venue Garage and to her own intuition. These references indicate the breadth of the career covered by the episode without reducing the exhibition to a single period or medium.

Kode’s presentation also connects Tandberg’s work to the museum’s local history. The institution notes that her long career began in Bergen, while the podcast considers both her early photographic reputation and the decisions that followed it. The result is a dual format: the gallery exhibition provides the physical encounter with works spanning decades, and the audio programme supplies a chronological and conversational framework for understanding the artist’s changing concerns.

‘Vibeke Tandberg. De lever’ remains on view at Stenersen, Bergen, from 23 May through 13 September 2026. The related podcast episode can be heard by searching for ‘Permanenten’ on the relevant podcast services or through Kode’s podcast page.
