JD Malat Gallery will present ‘CODA’, a new series of six paintings by Henrik Aa. Uldalen at KIAF Seoul 2026, held at Booth A27 from 2 to 6 September. The presentation will take place at KIAF Seoul, 513 Yeongdong-daero, in Seoul’s Gangnam District, with public opening hours from 11am to 7pm each day.
Created specifically for the fair, the series comprises six oil paintings on wood: ‘Compianto’, ‘Fermata’, ‘Fondo’, ‘Affannato’, ‘Delirio’ and ‘Vuoto’. Each work is listed at 150 by 100 centimetres, or 59 by 39 3/8 inches. The gallery’s fair presentation places the works together as a focused body rather than as isolated individual paintings.
The title ‘CODA’ refers to the musical term for a passage that brings a composition to its close. JD Malat Gallery’s presentation describes the title as pointing not to a definitive ending, but to the interval that follows the final note and precedes silence. This idea provides the organizing framework for a series concerned with the experience of grief.
According to the gallery, the paintings move through a range of emotional states, including desperation, lamentation, numbness, emptiness and the possibility of acceptance. The works do not present grief as a linear progression. Instead, the series treats it as a shifting landscape in which emotional states may return, intensify or recede, leaving traces after loss.
The gallery’s description identifies different modes within the six paintings. Some depict solitary figures suspended in darkness, while others show multiple bodies brought together in fractured scenes of collective anguish. The works are presented as inhabiting distinct states rather than narrating a single sequence of events.
Henrik Uldalen is among the international artists represented by JD Malat Gallery. The gallery, established in 2017, operates from locations in Mayfair, London, and Downtown Dubai, and presents painting and sculpture by established and emerging artists. Its programme includes participation in international art fairs alongside exhibitions at its two gallery locations.
Following its Seoul presentation, the gallery’s September programme also includes a presentation at Tokyo Gendai in Yokohama from 11 to 13 September, but that event is separate from the KIAF Seoul booth. ‘CODA’ will be on view at KIAF Seoul Booth A27 from Wednesday 2 through Sunday 6 September 2026, from 11am to 7pm.
