The Brandywine Museum of Art in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, will host a book talk on October 2 devoted to ‘Andrew Wyeth: The Masterworks’, a forthcoming publication surveying the work of the American artist Andrew Wyeth. The event will run from 2 to 4 p.m. at the museum and will be followed by a signing with the author.
Dr. William L. Coleman, Wyeth Foundation Curator and director of the Andrew & Betsy Wyeth Study Center, will discuss the book during the afternoon programme. Copies will be available for purchase through the Brandywine Gift Shop, according to the museum’s event announcement.
The publication is described by the Brandywine as a comprehensive volume bringing together 100 masterworks made across more than seven decades. Its scope includes Wyeth’s early childhood drawings, watercolours and temperas, the medium for which he is particularly known. The book also features landscapes, portraits and nudes, presenting an overview of the artist’s career and practice.
Wyeth (1917–2009) is central to the Brandywine Museum of Art’s programme and collections. The institution’s campus includes the artist’s studio, which opened to the public in 2012 after being given to the Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art by Wyeth’s wife, Betsy James Wyeth, in 2010. The museum also operates the N.C. Wyeth House & Studio and Kuerner Farm, sites associated with the Wyeth family and the landscapes that informed their work.
The Brandywine Conservancy was founded in 1967 to preserve the natural and cultural environment of the historic Brandywine Valley. The museum, originally known as the Brandywine River Museum, opened in 1971 in a renovated former gristmill. Today, the organisation describes the Brandywine Museum of Art as internationally recognised for its collection and its dedication to Wyeth and American art.
Coleman is also the curator of ‘By Design: The Worlds of Betsy James Wyeth’, on view at the Brandywine Museum of Art from June 27, 2026, through January 10, 2027. The exhibition examines Betsy James Wyeth’s work as a designer of environments, including her restoration and adaptive reuse of historic buildings, architectural projects, interiors and large-scale environmental designs. It is being presented simultaneously at the Brandywine Museum of Art, Colby College Museum of Art and Farnsworth Art Museum, with distinct elements at each venue.
The October event forms part of the Brandywine’s 2026 programme of museum and conservancy activities. Registration is required for the book talk. It will take place at the Brandywine Museum of Art, 1 Hoffman’s Mill Road, Chadds Ford, from 2 to 4 p.m. on October 2.
