Oliver Laric’s exhibition ‘Save For Later’ remains on view at DOCK 20 – Kunstraum und Sammlung Hollenstein in Lustenau, Austria, through 12 September 2026. The presentation, which opened on 29 May, brings together video and poster works focused on archives, media images and forms of collective image production.

Laric’s practice has developed since the early 2000s across video, sculpture, digital media and archival research. According to DOCK 20, his work is concerned less with the autonomous artwork than with how images, objects and information circulate, are transformed and recoded. The exhibition follows those questions through a selection of four video works and four poster works.

One new video work is based on Laric’s collection of flipbook sequences found at the margins of international textbooks, magazines and novels. These small, often humorous drawings are animated into a stop-motion film, turning peripheral material into a set of visual protagonists. Through collecting, ordering and re-editing the sequences, the work moves between individual research, collective memory and media history.

The exhibition also examines clip-art graphics from the 1990s and early 2000s. Originally produced for digital communication, presentations and desktop publishing, the imagery is presented as a visual archive of early internet culture. Laric’s re-use of the motifs considers how their appearance and meaning have changed over time, placing them between nostalgic recollection and contemporary re-reading.

Posters are given an independent role in the presentation. DOCK 20 describes them as condensed image archives that bring together different materials, references and themes, while also reflecting Laric’s interest in dissemination and access. Visitors can take the posters with them, making the works reproducible carriers of knowledge, memory and image politics rather than simply exhibition supplements.

Laric’s wider archival practice includes the open 3D archive threedscans.com, which he has developed since 2012. The platform makes scans of historical sculptures and artefacts available for download, reproduction and further processing. His work has been shown at institutions including Vienna Secession, Schinkel Pavillon in Berlin, the SCAD Museum of Art in Savannah, the Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna, Centre Pompidou in Paris and the New Museum in New York. He also co-founded the art blog vvork.com, active from 2006 to 2012.

DOCK 20, which combines a contemporary art space with the Hollenstein collection, presents three to four exhibitions annually and has been described by the Marktgemeinde Lustenau as part of the town’s cultural life for five decades. A free guided tour of ‘Save For Later’, led by curator Anne Zühlke, is scheduled for 19 August at 6pm and will last 45 minutes. The exhibition is free to visit at Pontenstraße 20, with opening hours on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10am to 1pm, and Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 2pm to 6pm.
