The Metropolitan Museum of Art will present ‘Krasner and Pollock: Past Continuous’ from October 4, 2026, to January 31, 2027, in Gallery 899 at The Met Fifth Avenue. Admission to the exhibition is included with museum admission.
According to the museum’s own exhibition page, the show gathers over 120 works and is the first major New York presentation devoted to either artist in more than 20 years, as well as the first to examine the full arc of the two careers together. Its subtitle is taken from a 1976 painting by Krasner.
Lee Krasner (1908–1984) and Jackson Pollock (1912–1956) met as emerging artists in New York in the winter of 1941 and married in 1945, after which they moved to Springs, on Long Island, remaining closely bound personally and professionally until Pollock’s death. The Met notes that Pollock’s reputation long overshadowed Krasner’s, and frames the exhibition as continuing a reassessment of both practices on their own terms and in relation to one another.
The museum sets out contrasting formations for the two artists: Krasner was born in Brooklyn to Jewish immigrant parents from what is now Ukraine, while Pollock grew up in Los Angeles and the American West. Their separate routes through American modernism converged in Abstract Expressionism. Pollock’s breakthrough came with his “drip” method, concentrated in a short and productive span, while Krasner worked through sustained investigations of abstraction shaped by her interest in nature and colour.
