Rin Yamashita

Japanese icon painter (1857-1939) for the Orthodox Church and a pioneering independent female yoga (Western-style) artist, trained in Saint Petersburg after converting to Christianity. Her Orthodox icons are found in more than forty churches across Japan, and she is recognised as one of the first professional female Western-style painters in Japanese art history.
